ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Slippery Rock University won three of four matches over the weekend at the Navy Open men’s water polo competition to successfully opened its 2003 season.

The Rock beat the Navy “B” team 11-9 and Fordham 11-4 on Saturday before nipping the Navy Athletic Club 7-6 and dropping an 11-5 decision to Iona on Sunday.

Derek Meyerson scored a total of 14 goals in the four games to lead The Rock scoring effort, while Ryan Holt added eight, Josh Buckley six and Matt Cunningham five and Chris Hokans one.

The Rock returns to action next weekend, Sept. 12-14, when it competes in the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg.
